BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Mass Media Group Inc. said Tuesday it has bought the popular Berita, NJ-based digital news company, BeritaMedia.com.
The purchase, first reported by NJ.com, represents a shift in Berita’s strategy from digital content delivery to content production and distribution.
Berita has been producing digital content for the company since it was founded in 2003 and is now owned by Media Group’s parent company, MediaOne.
“The Berita family is proud to be a part of Media Group, which is one of the world’s leading brands in digital content,” Berita founder and CEO Paul Berita said in a statement.
“Berita Media is excited to be joining Media Group in a growing global industry that will benefit both the brand and the community.”
Berita’s acquisition comes as the company’s digital content has been growing steadily in recent years, growing to more than 1.5 million downloads per month, and has been gaining traction on the Web.
In 2017, the company also sold the site Berita News, which had about 200,000 subscribers.
In 2018, Beritas digital platform, Berits Berita Blog, was acquired by Digital News Group, Inc., which owns and operates the popular blog.
Berits blog was also purchased by New York-based New Media Capital, a digital news startup.
Beritas Berita will continue to operate Berits Blog.
New Media Capital said in October that it was in talks with Berita to acquire Berits, but Beritas had not reached a deal.
